We're Hiring Summer Farm Camp Counselors!

Summer Full time positions available!

Are you ready to help the next generation of kids experience the wonders of a technology free summer of fun? Are you responsible and know how to facilitate safe fun? If so, this job is for you!

Our camp runs for six weeks, from June 16 through July 25, with a week of required paid training June 9-13. Camp shifts run eight hours in length, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 5pm. 

Counselors are generally assigned the same hours at one-week intervals. 

Upon applying, we request that applicants mark the weeks of availability, and days/times that you need off. 

During the summer we often hold additional events that you can to work and counselors are eligible for overtime, though we try to not work you too hard!

We provide free first aid/CPR and/or lifeguard training during our orientation and training week of June 9.

This training is mandatory.

Duties

Lead Camp Counselor Job Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the School Age Program Director, and supporting the Lead Camp Counselor:

  • Assists and planning and implementing camp programs for children.
  • Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
  • Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
  • Contributes to and facilitates lesson plans for daily activities.
  • Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
  • Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
  • Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies and ensures that the meals/snacks are distributed to them.
  • Mediates any campers’ disputes.
  • Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of the pool/body of water areas while participating.

Primary Responsibilities and Expectations:

Counselors foster a relationship with the same group of campers for a week at a time while ensuring

campers’ safety and well being during camp activities.

Counselors lead planned camp activities, and may also propose their own camp activities.

Counselors supervise campers’ participation in activities, and are an active part of all activities (i.e. farm

animal interactions, games, swimming, crafts, gardening and produce harvesting).

Work with other camp staff to complete morning set-up and afternoon clean-up of camp areas.

Attend scheduled trainings and camp staff meetings.

Counselors must be able to interact appropriately with and model professional behavior for campers and

fellow staff in a variety of situations using positive behavior-management techniques, including:

enthusiasm, a positive attitude, patience, sensitivity, a sense of humor, and self-control.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and finger printing
  • Must be 18+

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Education and/or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, babysitting, or in a related field
  • First AID and CPR certified (training provided)
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check in Virginia
